The Jewish Roots Festival returns on Sunday, November 30, celebrating Jewish culture, sustainability, and community.

Presented by Adamama – Shalom Collective’s Jewish educational urban farm – the festival brings together music, art, food and nature.

It will be an inspiring, hands-on day of activities, live music, food and market stalls, from 10.30am to 4pm, in a South Coogee location.

Festival highlights will include performances by contemporary Jewish musicians the Junkyard Beats and a jam session with Ayelet HaShachar, a dedicated Garden of Eden-themed kids’ sensory play zone, and meditation, mindfulness and yoga sessions for adults and children.

Market stalls will offer delicious kosher food, locally-made sustainable products and gifts from Judaica to jewellery, and opportunities to swap pre-loved clothes, books and other items.

Try your hand at creative activities on the day, such as making your own beeswax food wraps, Judaica-themed mosaics, potted plants and preserved lemons. You can even create your own challah board out of reclaimed timbers.

Also, you can chat to representatives from local youth movements, enjoy face painting, a sausage sizzle and challah baking with Our Big Kitchen.

The Jewish Roots Festival reflects Shalom Collective’s mission to create contemporary Jewish experiences that celebrate culture, deepen identity and build community.

The festival’s program manager Hadar Matatyau said, “It’s all about celebrating who we are – through music, food, learning, and nature.

“It’s a space for our community to connect to Jewish life through their interests in sustainability, music and art.”

“At Adamama, we see sustainability as a deeply Jewish practice,” said Adamama director Elik Rotenberg.

“This festival is a chance to experience that connection first-hand, between people, the environment and our shared heritage.”

Tickets to the festival cover entry and all activities, and cost $25 for adults, and $10 for children, and family passes are available.
