The Angel Network of Australia (TANA) held a sold-out event on International Women’s Day to celebrate the wonderful women of the community.

The event was generously hosted by Shuk Cafe in North Bondi, while best-selling author Joanne Fedler graciously donated her time to speak to the audience.

Fedler is an internationally acclaimed author, writing mentor, feminist, activist and ocean swimmer. She has written 15 books, including When Hungry, Eat about her immigration to Australia from South Africa.

Fedler spoke about the paradox of feeding others when we are ‘hungry’, and the great hunger we all live with – to connect, to live meaningfully, to know we have left the world a kinder place than we found it.

Members of TANA include Simone Joffee, Joanne Bloch, Martine Chait, Louise Fisher and Tammy Ceppi, plus 100 other women who have joined the network and are committed to helping those in need

TANA supports soup kitchens in South Africa, some of which are generously funded by Jewish families in the community. One of those is Hannah and Ben’s kitchen in Cape Town, South Africa, generously sponsored by the Chait family in loving memory of their late children Hannah and Ben.

“As a family we’ve decided to start, sponsor and open a soup kitchen in Cape Town through the Angel Network in honour, and in the names of our two children and siblings,” said the Chait family.

“Hannah, who would’ve been 20 on September 27, and our Benjamin, would’ve been 16 on November 28. Both left this world so suddenly with no warnings or reasons and no time for us to say our goodbyes.”

“We’ve always strived to try and keep both their spirits alive and by opening and sponsoring a soup kitchen in their names and in their honour, this would bring so much happiness and joy to starving children with both our Hannah and Ben shining and smiling down on us.

“May our soup kitchen grow from strength to strength with your help and support.

“Any amount is appreciated to make this happen for our Hannah and Ben who live in our hearts forever.”

Should you wish to sponsor a kitchen or are happy to do monthly donations towards feeding the children in South African townships, please contact Simone on info@theangelnetwork.com.au. All donations are tax deductible and 100 per cent of what is collected is handed over to TANA’s causes. The organisation knows where every cent goes.
