The Rabbinical Council of Victoria president Rabbi Moshe Kahn and executive director Rachel Mihalovich recently had the privilege of meeting with Victorian Governor, Professor Margaret Gardner, to provide an update on community affairs. Rabbi Kahn, on behalf of the RCV, presented Gardner with an Australian-themed chamsa, a symbolic hand that represents protection in both Jewish and Islamic cultures During the meeting, the RCV representatives shared insights into ongoing community initiatives and discussed various matters of importance.

A sense of honour marked the meeting as the council had the opportunity to engage directly with the esteemed Governor. Rabbi Moshe Kahn said, “It is particularly reassuring to hear firsthand the Governor’s expression of support and encouragement for the endeavours of the community.”

Rabbi Kahn’s message to the Governor was the RCV’s request for solid leadership from the Governor and from anyone in leadership in Victoria standing together against antisemitism. This collaborative exchange underscores the commitment of both the Rabbinical Council of Victoria and the Office of the Governor to foster positive relationships and address the needs of the Jewish community.

The council looks forward to continuing this dialogue and working together for the betterment of Victoria. “We also gave a commitment that we are more than happy, our arms are always open, to work with any Victorians anywhere we can. Instead of all of us working in silos, we can see how we can meaningfully collaborate.”
