Helping Ukrainian orphans

'Our brave young brothers and sisters – our Kinderlach – without mums or dads, will benefit immediately from our assistance...'

THE Joint Australia is partnering with Sydney’s Central Synagogue and the Australian Zionist Youth Council (AZYC) in a nationwide campaign to raise funds for Jewish Ukrainian orphans displaced by the war.

The Mishpacha Orphanage in Odesa, run by Rabbi Avraham Wolff and his dedicated team, usually houses over 150 Jewish boys and girls from babies to teens.

“With war raging, these brave young souls made a dangerous dash west via four countries and are currently in Berlin, their future uncertain,” said Rabbi Levi Wolff from Central Synagogue, who is driving the initiative.

“These sweet, innocent Jewish children need our help – from food to clothing to accommodation to medical needs to Jewish educational resources to other necessities. This is a daunting task and the work is critical, aiding them physically, emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.

“Our brave young brothers and sisters – our Kinderlach – without mums or dads, will benefit immediately from our assistance.”

The Charidy campaign will take place this Sunday, March 27 from 10am with a call-a-thon. Members of the community can also donate online.

Donations will be tax deductible and channelled directly to these Jewish Mishpacha orphans displaced in Berlin.

“Every dollar donated will be gratefully received and managed with respect and appreciation,” Rabbi Wolff said.

“This is a collective effort aiming to ease the burden on so many in desperate need. Now is the moment to give generously.

“Now is the moment to realise the phrase, ‘Am Echad b’Lev Echad’ – One People, One Heart.”

Approximately 40,000 Jews were living in Odesa prior to the Russian invasion, which began on February 24.
