Fauda creators, Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff are at it again, with their new thriller Hit & Run premiering on Netflix last week. The nine-episode series follows Segev Azulai, a former Israeli intelligence agent, as he tries to solve his wife’s death.

Segev, played by Lior Raz, is now an Israeli tour guide attempting to live a relatively calm life alongside his wife, a dancer for the Batsheva Dance Company. His wife’s death, caused by a hit and run (hence the name of the series), causes Segev to spiral, believing it was, in fact, not an accident at all.

Filmed in Tel Aviv and New York, Hit & Run is being billed as Netflix’s first original Israeli series. Issacharoff and Raz pitched the idea to Netflix who immediately took the project on board, connecting them to their American partners Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin. “We’re not that experienced, we’ve had one TV show and Fauda was never meant to be on the international screen,” Issacharoff told The Times of Israel. “So, for us it was a very interesting experience, to write a show with two experienced writers that was heading to an international audience.”

Clearly the show’s success preceded its premiere, with a second season of Hit & Run already confirmed.

“It’s a unique kind of story,” Issacharof continued to The Times of Israel. “It’s about the relationship between a man and a woman, and two countries. It tells a bigger story but it’s very personal too.
