AUSTRALIA’S hockey girls went down 3-0 to powerhouse Netherlands on Thursday (July 16), but know that their equation is simple: they need to beat Germany on Monday (July 20) to qualify for the semi finals.

The loss leaves the girls with two losses and one draw in the Maccabiah Games. However, this match was one of the side’s proudest displays, pushing the competition heavyweights in the heat without a substitute.

The girls held the Dutch to 0-0 at half-time, but the Orange had too much class and poise in the end.

Goalkeeper Sophie Gaphy worked exceptionally hard to keep the scoreboard respectable, while Carly Bogatin was arguable best on ground. Hannah Court was another standout, working hard to lift her game to level of the admirable Netherlands.

The girls have a few days off before their make or break clash with the Germans on Monday.
