Hugh Jackman joins Humanitix team
Hugh Jackman joins Humanitix as Head of Impact, as more than $20 million is raised for those in need.
World famous Australian actor, singer, producer and philanthropist Hugh Jackman joined Humanitix last week, as the not-for-profit ticketing service provider’s first Head of Impact.
In a video message, Jackman thanked everyone who has purchased a ticket to an event through Humanitix, which was established by Jewish Sydneysiders Adam McCurdie and Josh Ross, to do good in the world.
“I want you to know how you’ve helped serve us, and in our mission, because what Humanitix is doing is really supporting people, all around the world, who are struggling with extreme poverty,” Jackman said.
“Every day, we hit milestones that we can’t believe that we’re hitting – the number donated so far is more than $20 million.
“And that represents meals, shelter, and a future for people and families who are struggling in the cycle of extreme poverty, and helping them to get out of it.
“The sky is the limit, so thank you so much for your part.”
In a letter of acceptance as Head of Impact, Jackman wrote, “The more I learned about Humanitix and how it works, the more I realised this isn’t just something I want to support from the sidelines. This is something I want to help build.”
He added, “What Adam, Josh and the team have built isn’t a tech company that donates to charity – it’s a fundamentally different model.
“The impact isn’t a side project or a PR strategy, it’s the engine. And every dollar of profit goes to the mission.
“And here’s what excites me most about Humanitix – they’re competing head-to-head with some of the biggest ticketing companies in the world, and they’re growing faster because the product is genuinely better.
“That destroys the old excuse that doing good means accepting a worse product or a slower business.”
McCurdie and Ross were schoolmates at Masada College, and founded Humanitix in 2016 after making a pact to escape the corporate world and do something different and meaningful with their careers.
They identified event ticketing as a field to disrupt by offering better service, and empowering customers to help make a positive difference in the world by donating 100 per cent of ticket booking fees to humanitarian projects.
From its first ticket sold for a modest trivia night, Humanitix now sells about 50,000 tickets per day for events around the world.
And from the beginning, many Jewish organisations across Australia have chosen to use Humanitix.
With Jackman now on board, Humanitix is aiming to double its market share in the United States within 18 months and dramatically boost its growth in the United Kingdom and other key markets. It has set itself a goal of donating $70 million to charity by 2031.
In addition to funding poverty-reducing projects, Humanitix also supports healthcare initiatives, education projects and charities and organisations that boost food security, environmental protection, children and youth services, and more.
