Four members of BBYO NSW ((B’nai B’rith Youth Organisation) joined BBYO Victoria and Canberra to travel to Dallas and participate in the BBYO International Convention (IC), along with 5000 Jewish teenagers from all over the world.

IC is one of the largest Jewish communal events where educators, professionals and philanthropists from around the world gather. Delegates hear from inspiring speakers, deepen their leadership skills, celebrate Shabbat and do their part in strengthening their Jewish future.

“It’s impossible to put into words how amazing BBYO IC 2023 truly was, and how amazing 10 jam-packed days of leadership training, fun and excitement with over 3000 Jewish teens from over 40 countries really is,” said BBYO NSW participant Ruby Borer.

“From listening to the most incredible speakers, including the first Jewish second gentleman of the USA, Douglas Emhoff, and former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett, to experiencing a completely pluralistic Shabbat, and of course the incredible leadership training, BBYO IC 2023 was an experience like no other. It is not every day that Jewish teens from around the world come together to be empowered and reminded of the power of our youth, and the fact that now is our time to make an impact on society and shape our future.

“I was taught so many valuable leadership lessons and have become even more passionate in my Judaism, excited to bring everything that I have learnt back to BBYO Australia and the entire Australian Jewish community. IC 2023 was honestly the opportunity of a lifetime and I am so grateful to BBYO International, B’nai B’rith NSW and UJEB Victoria for giving me the opportunity to attend this unique experience”.

BBYO NSW is the youngest unit at B’nai B’rith NSW. Although relatively new in Sydney, it is committed to engaging Jewish teens to learn leadership skills and strengthen their Jewish ties. The group is run by teenagers who organise fun and meaningful events for their peers.
