Central Synagogue will celebrate 75 years of Israel, 20 years of Rabbi Levi and Rebbetzin Chanie Wolff’s leadership, and 50 years of Shimon Farkas’ involvement with the synagogue, with a special concert on Thursday, August 17, featuring international sensations Shulem Lemmer and Nissim Saal.

Both will perform alongside local talent, including Shimon and Dov Farkas, Yehuda Niasoff, and an 18-piece Metropolitan Orchestra, led by New York-based Maestro Rafi Graydi.

The event, called 75inConcert, will celebrate and pay tribute to decades of involvement and commitment of the community leaders, as well as the anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel.

This one-night-only concert is the first time Lemmer and Nissim will have visited Sydney.

Their Australian visit also includes a performance three nights later at Melbourne’s Caulfield Shule.

Lemmer made history when he became the first born-and-raised Orthodox singer to sign a major record deal in the United States.

He has since performed to packed stadiums at Fenway Park in Boston, Citi Field in New York, and more.

Tablet magazine has described Lemmer’s music as “able to reach across cultural divides, and touch people of diverse faiths and backgrounds”, while Graham Parker from Universal Music wrote, “People are touched by his voice, and his ability to communicate a hopeful message – that’s what makes him so special.”

Saal’s singing style ranges from chazzanut and opera, to Chasidic and pop ballads.

As he grew as a vocalist, Saal discovered his extraordinary range of more than four octaves.

There is a real passion and sensitivity reflected in his music and vocals, and his language proficiency broadens his repertoire even further.

Whenever Saal performs, audiences are both entertained and uplifted.

Central Synagogue’s Rabbi Levi Wolff said, “We are immensely excited to be hosting such a meaningful musical concert marking so many milestone moments, globally and locally.

“The concert will encapsulate our modern State of Israel reaching 75 years. During such challenging times in Israel, our community is uniting and coming together, to reinforce our profound connection as ‘One People’ (Am Yisroel), blessed with the precious gift of Eretz Yisrael.

“In addition to our local talent, we are honoured to have global sensations Shulem Lemmer and Nissim Saal in our midst – musical mavens and marvels in the truest sense.

“As we eagerly await this extraordinary experience, I extend an invitation to the entire Sydney community.

“Let us come together, celebrate our heritage, and create unforgettable memories in the harmony of music and unity.”

The concert is sponsored by the Rubinstein Group, and is presented in association with UIA Australia and the Zionist Council of NSW.

There will be a wide range of food options available for pre-purchase, from Millee’s Deli and Kosherlicious.
