Murphy said the issue of the anti-Israel posters in Fremantle and the attitude of the Federal Labor government towards Israel is going to affect the way people like him vote.

A non-Jewish construction worker from Fremantle is upset at the lack of action from his local council in removing anti-Israel posters.

Peter Murphy, a fly in fly out worker at a major energy project in the state’s northwest, said he and his friends aren’t Jewish, but reject the attitudes reflected by the posters.

“I’m the one scraping them off. I’m in contact with the council, but they just turn a blind eye. Our Fremantle Council is a very Green party … and they just don’t seem to care”.

He said the posters are using slogans such as “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and promote boycotting Israeli goods.

Murphy said his mates don’t like the message being sent by the posters.

“I think it is the minority, none of my friends are against Israel, you know. They just don’t want to get involved,” he said.

He said he’s voted Labor all his life, but at the next election plans to vote Liberal.

“And the main reason is the way Albo and Penny Wong carry on against Israel. You know they’ve our ally, they’ve just shat on their mates,” he said.

Murphy said the issue of the anti-Israel posters in Fremantle and the attitude of the Federal Labor government towards Israel is going to affect the way people like him vote.

“We were in a pub for about three hours [recently] and I asked a few punters just as a bit of a psychological survey. And Labor’s really going down – nothing really beats pub tests when you ask people,” he said.
