Israeli health innovation showcased in Australia
Australian and Israeli experts gathered in Sydney to strengthen medical innovation and health tech ties.
A NEW chapter in Australian-Israeli medical collaboration opened on May 13, when Sydney’s CBD played host to “Inventing Tomorrow”, a MedTech and Digital Health showcase bringing the best of Israel’s life sciences innovation to Australian investors, clinicians and industry leaders.
It was organised by TradeIL Australia – formerly called the Israel Trade and Economic Commission – in partnership with the Australian Friends of the Hebrew University (AFHU), the Israel Export Institute and Yissum, which is the Hebrew University’s technology transfer company.
The event was hosted at the Sydney headquarters of law firm Arnold Bloch Leibler, and was well-attended despite it being postponed from mid-March due to conflict in the Middle East.
The showcase drew together investors, clinical partners and distributors to explore breakthroughs in medical diagnostics and advanced treatment, and featured both in-person and virtual addresses, presentations and discussions.
Five standout companies from the Yissum portfolio took centre stage.
• Everly Bio is revolutionising fertility care and IVF success rates with its molecular platform.
• Cavos Biotherapeutics is developing novel therapeutics based on naturally occurring resistance mechanisms.
• Salignostics is pioneering accessible, saliva-based diagnostics for global healthcare.
• Voyager Medical Research is engineering suture threads designed for optimal healing.
• Hopec Pharma develops novel immunotherapy targeting non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.
The program was structured around two pillars of modern healthcare.
The first, diagnostics, showcased how molecular biology and artificial intelligence are converging to transform patient testing, with one technology already reaching Australian pharmacy shelves.
The second focused on mRNA therapies and surgical innovations, offering new possibilities in oncology and complex procedures.
Opening the event, Israel’s Trade Commissioner in Australia, Ohad Blumberg, described what makes Israeli med-tech unique, pointing to the fusion of academic research from institutions like the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and military-grade data analytics, as the driving force behind Israel’s “relentless chutzpah to solve global problems”.
“At TradeIL Australia, the Israel Trade and Economic Commission, our mission is to ensure that world-leading Israeli technology finds the right partners, the right investors, and the right home here in Australia.”
The showcase concluded with a networking session, connecting representatives from the Australian business and healthcare scene directly with founders of the featured Israeli companies and start-ups, who are based in Israel and the United States.
With pilot programs, investment opportunities, and market-entry pathways on the table, the event underscored the considerable potential for deepened collaboration.
