JERUSALEM — Thousands of secular and religious citizens of Jerusalem, supported by supporters who lie outside the city, held a march and rally on November 29 to protest the violent antics of the city’s Charedi residents over the breaking of the strict observance of Sabbath in the capital.

The ultra-Orthodox action has been mainly over the opening of parking facilities in the city on the Sabbath and also the fact that the hi-tech company Intel, located in the north of the city, also operates on the Sabbath.

Protestors marched from Paris Square to Zion Square in the city centre with banners proclaiming “We are sick of Charedi violence” and “Jerusalem will not fall”.

There was anger by both the secular and religious participants in the rally that the ultra-Orthodox are themselves violating the spirit of the Sabbath by their violent actions.
