JNF Australia and Sydney’s Grandma Moses store now officially hold the Guinness World Record for the longest baked braided loaf of bread.
The challah, which was baked at Maroubra Synagogue on November 14 last year in conjunction with the Shabbat Project, measured a whopping 10.087 metres.
“The record was attempted as part of the Shabbat Project 2019 activities and served to encourage the community to stay connected, get involved and feel proud of their heritage,” JNF NSW executive director Gabbie Budai said.
While the challah dwarfed the previous record of just over six metres, the necessary evidence needed to be submitted to Guinness World Records and Budai said she was thrilled to receive the news last week that the feat has been officially certified.
“It was a huge undertaking by all involved and an incredible achievement by the community worth celebrating,” she said.
Budai also thanked all the volunteers and schools involved including Masada College, Emanuel School, Moriah College, Kesser Torah College and Mount Sinai College, and praised the Shabbat Project 2019 team for their support.
The record-breaking challah took 12 hours to make using 70 kilograms of dough.
