Janine Zimbler takes the helm at B’nai B’rith NSW

B’nai B’rith NSW welcomed Janine Zimbler as its new council president last month.

Zimbler, who has had a successful career as a family and marital therapist, has served in numerous leadership positions in a professional capacity and in the community. In addition to serving on the B’nai B’rith NSW Council, she was school counsellor at Mount Sinai College for seven years and is a past president of Womanpower.

She welcomed the chance to take up a more senior role and “contribute a small part in the continuity of the great work that started almost 80 years ago here in NSW”.

“B’nai B’rith is a truly remarkable Jewish organisation. It has been the birthplace of significant charitable, advocacy, anti-discrimination and social justice programs,” she said.

Zimbler gave particular credit to B’nai B’rith members and volunteers for their “sheer hard work, determination and tenacity” in bringing B’nai Brith’s initiatives to life and their commitment to Tikkun Olam – a Jewish ideal that translates to repairing the world.

“I feel so blessed to be associated with B’nai B’rith, and so proud to be able to represent the organisation in the wider community,” said Zimbler, who has been welcomed by the organisation for both her wealth of experience and fresh ideas.

She replaces Anna Marks, who served in the role for six years. Marks will continue to play a role in B’nai B’rith NSW, running its beloved Bargain Bazaar charity op shop.

B’nai B’rith is known for its charitable, advocacy, anti-discrimination and social justice programs.

Founded in 1944 to help refugees of the Holocaust, its local chapter delivers services today via a wide range of initiatives — from Courage to Care, which aims to use education to combat prejudice, to the B’nai B’rith Retirement Villages and Bargain Bazaar.

B’nai B’rith also works closely with other Australian Jewish organisations.
