Each week we’ll chat to some of the UK’s best loved Jewish comedians, presenters, broadcasters, journalists and actors. They’ll share their own unique perspectives on being 21st century Jews as well as their memories of growing up and what being Jewish means to them. Well, after talking about it for the past few months, we’re delighted to bring you our first full length episode, hosted by award winning comedians Rachel Creeger and Philip Simon, and produced by Russell Balkind. This week’s guests are comedy writer Ivor Baddiel and actress Debbie Chazen.

Ivor writes extensively for television and includes amongst the glittering array of celebrities who have employed him the likes of Stephen Fry, Graham Norton, Joan Rivers, Dermot O’ Leary, James Nesbitt, Claudia Winkleman, Bruce Forsyth, Ant and Dec, Julian Clary, Ricky Tomlinson, Johnny Vaughn, Dara O’Briain and Danny Wallace. (He could go on, but feels the point is made, whatever that point might be).

He is the author of 14 books ranging from those for the youngest reader (Cock-A-Doodle-Quack-Quack, published by David Fickling Books) to those for the slightly older reader (Ultimate Football published by Dorling Kindersley, Mystical Magic published by Scholastic) to those for the more mature reader (Not The Highway Code published by Wiedenfeld and Nicolson, Bottle published by Mainstream).

Olivier Award nominated actress Debbie Chazen has become a familiar face on stage and screen, with roles in The Smoking Room, TittyBangBang and Coronation Street. She studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), where she won both the Patricia Lawrence Scholarship and the Laurence Olivier Bursary, awarded by the Society of London Theatre.

In 2009, while appearing on stage in Calendar Girls, Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer. She wrote a blog about her experiences – “Making the Breast of Things” –  which was published by The Independent magazine.
