Jews are ‘correct and right’ says Macpherson

A Sky News presenter has urged Jewish community members to step out of their comfort zone when it comes to media outlets.

James Macpherson was recently welcomed by 350 community members and Rabbi Daniel Rabin at an Armchair Society event run by B’nai B’rith and the Lamm Jewish Library of Australia at Caulfield Shule.

He spoke about how negative attitudes towards Jews from some are negatively affecting all Australians.

“The voices are different … the media seems very different [and] you feel like a stranger in your own country. And if there’s one thing I want to assure you of, it’s not just the Jewish community who feel that way.”

A former pastor at one of Australia’s largest church networks, Macpherson’s address wove biblical verses into a broader message of support for the Jewish community.

“What the devil intended for evil, God has actually not only used it for good, but for the saving of many lives … It’s faith in a God who works all things together for good for those who love him,” Macpherson said.

Since October 7, Macpherson’s reporting on Sky News has been increasingly supportive of the Jewish community.

“I think it’s important to stand up for the Jews, because on this issue, Jews are correct and right, and you want to stand for truth and you want to stand for justice, to not stand for those things is to condemn your own country,” he said.

Macpherson also stressed the importance of engaging with different political perspectives.

“It doesn’t help people to live in an echo chamber where your thoughts are never challenged, your worldview is never challenged … a lot of the people I talk to don’t agree with me, and they’re usually the most interesting,” he said.
