JNF Victoria has agreed to become a co-sponsor, with Zionism Victoria, of the Israel 75 Peace Garden being established in the City of Glen Eira.

Glen Eira Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the proposal put forward by Zionism Victoria on February 8.

The garden, to be located on the corner of Glen Eira Road and Hartley Avenue in the heart of Melbourne’s Jewish community, is being established in recognition of Israel’s 75th anniversary and celebrates the historic ties between the two countries. It will feature native Israeli flora.

A gift to the city and people of Glen Eira, it will be jointly funded by Zionism Victoria and JNF Victoria.

JNF Victoria president Ronit Fraid said of the Peace Garden, “It’s an environmental gift to our wider community to celebrate this very special year – Israel’s 75th birthday.

“The core values of JNF are Zionism and enriching and growing the environment. This peace garden will send a message of our shared hope for peace while beautifying our local environment in perpetuity, a perfect fit.”

Zionism Victoria president Yossi Goldfarb added, “We’re thrilled to be joining forces with JNF Victoria and Glen Eira Council on this wonderful initiative.

“Given its historic role in making the desert bloom and its contemporary commitment to environmental projects throughout Israel, JNF is the perfect partner for planting a peace garden in our own backyard.”
