AN unbeaten century from captain Michael Klinger has moved English county side Gloucestershire into the top four of Division Two in the County Championship.

It was Klinger’s debut century as skipper of the team, which romped to a nine-wicket win over Leicestershire – it’s first for the season.

The 32-year-old was in fine batting form, hitting his first 50 off 100 balls, before smashing a four and a six to bring up his maiden ton.

In a dominant performance, Klinger carted 16 boundaries on his way to 103 not out from 172 balls.

He has now hit 154 runs from the first three county matches against Leicestershire, Northamptonshire – where he came up against fellow Aussie Trent Copeland – and Essex, which features big-hitting Victorian Rob Quiney, and is currently leading Gloucestershire in its clash against Hampshire.

It’s not the Australian’s first taste of English cricket, having played six matches with county side Worcestershire last year.
