Kosher Australia: ‘CK is reliable’
SYDNEY’S newest hechsher, Community Kashrut (CK) has been listed as a reliable kashrut organisation by Melbourne’s largest kashrut organisation, Kosher Australia.
SYDNEY’S newest hechsher, Community Kashrut (CK) has been listed as a reliable kashrut organisation by Melbourne’s largest kashrut organisation, Kosher Australia.
In the 2016 Kosher Australia Food Guide, which was recently released, caterer Amaze In Taste (AIT), which is under CK’s hechsher, is also listed.
More specifically, it says that “all functions and products by the following caterers are under the supervision of reliable kashrut organisations in NSW” before naming AIT.
The official stance taken by Kosher Australia is in stark contrast to statements made by the Kashrut Authority (KA) in Sydney, widely considered as its interstate counterpart.
Last week the Kashrut Authority in Sydney announced that it could not recommend CK’s hechsher to kosher consumers in Sydney.
“The KA has certain internationally recognised standards both in terms of kashrut itself as well as its administration, which in our opinion, are essential for an acceptable kashrut authority,” the KA said.
“These are, in our opinion, most unfortunately not upheld or maintained by CK as is clear from its website. Therefore, from this standpoint alone, it is impossible for the KA to recommend CK as an acceptable hechsher.”
CK chairman David Sandler welcomed the recognition from Kosher Australia.
“In addition to the recognition that we have received from around the world it is great to see that Community Kashrut and Amaze in Taste are listed in the Kosher Australia Food Guide,” Sandler said.
The revelation comes the same week that CK announced Australian-made kosher cheese is available online.
Kosher Health is selling baby bocconcini, mozzarella balls, ricotta, mascarpone, haloumi, labne, camembert and brie kosher cheese online.
“For far too long consumers have been severely restricted in their choice of kosher cheese,” Sandler said. “I am therefore absolutely delighted that CK has been able to grant a hechsher to the entire Kosher Health offering, which vastly increases the range of available kosher cheeses.
“I am confident that with the support of the community this business will go from strength to strength, expanding its range of cheeses and the locations in which they are available over time.”
