THE Maccabi Touch Football Club recently launched its 2012/13 summer season, and after the first two weeks of competition all nine teams have registered wins.

The biggest highlight so far this season was the Maccabi derby in Thursday Division 8, which saw the Mob 2 team defeat United 6-0.

Josh Goldberg (2), Zac Seidler, Joel Weiner, Simon Molnar and Ben Kochan all crossed to give Mob 2 the win.

Maccabi Mob remain undefeated in Thursday Division 1 after an 8-3 win over Kings and Queens.

Paul Meltz and David Weiner both scored twice, while Josh Stein, Asher Lazar, Daniel Kerner and Michael Goldberg also added to the scoreboard.

Fellow top-grade side The Naturals couldn’t achieve the same success, going down to Frenzied 9-3, but won by the same margin over Kings and Queens the week before.

The Tuesday Mixed Division 1 Magic won its first game with a 3-1 defeat over Cloey Beavers and launched itself into the top four.

Maccabi’s Mobags 2 failed to continue its streak in the Tuesday Mixed Division 6, losing to Farside 6-5 after beating The Royals in the first game of the season. The side remains in third spot on the ladder despite the defeat.

The club’s Monday Mixed Division 1 Mobags lost its second game in a row, but previously managed a win in the second game of the season.

The Goldies, who play in the Monday Mixed Division 11 competition, defeated Hayr Jewellers Flamingos 6-4, which comes after its 7-1 triumph over Touch Too Much the week before. The Maccabi team now goes into second spot on the ladder.

Maccabi has also fielded its first junior team in a number of seasons, with a collection of 10 to 12-year-olds making up the side competing in the Easts Touch competition.

After four games, the side has improved immensely and is continuing to develop the skills of each player.

“It’s a credit to the kids for giving a brand new sport a go,” club president and junior coach David Weiner told The AJN. “They’re improving each and every week and having a ball.

“The club’s membership has exploded this summer and having a growing junior program is a vital element of the club’s vision.”
