Maccabi U14 Matildas win Randwick netball title

Sunshine, warm weather, and a carnival atmosphere on grand finals day made for a brilliant ending to the 2026 Randwick Netball Association season at the Heffron courts on September 19.

Two Maccabi NSW Netball Club teams enjoyed the challenge, excitement and pride of featuring in two grand finals, winning one, and narrowly losing another.

The U14 division 3 minor premiers, the Maccabi Matildas, triumphed in their decider by 24-20 against second-placed Mascot, achieving their third consecutive grand final win as a team.

They led in every quarter, and the win followed their 24-18 win against the same opponent a fortnight earlier in the major semi-final.

Maccabi coaching director Vanessa Abrahams described it as “a phenomenal accomplishment, and a true reflection of the hard work, dedication and teamwork that this group has shown throughout the season”.

Madison Cohen was outstanding through the mid-court, working tirelessly to transition the ball and connect defence with attack, alongside Ella Wainer, who provided great support and composure.

In the defensive circle, Zoe Chorn and Ashley Jackson were relentless, contesting every ball, and applying enormous pressure to shut down the opposition’s shooting attack.

At the other end, Amber Isaacs showcased her exceptional athleticism and composure under pressure in the shooting circle, nailing the crucial shots that helped the Matildas secure the win.

“Every player contributed to this fantastic result, and the team showed determination, confidence and belief right through to the final whistle,” Abrahams said.

In the U/12 division 4 grand final, minor premiers the Maccabi Dolphins fought hard, but lost 18-24 against Bondi Phoenix Silver.

With just seven players and no substitutes on the day, the Dolphins – coached by Luella – faced a tough challenge in the warm conditions, but showed incredible determination, resilience and teamwork throughout the match.

The Dolphins trailed 3-7 at quarter-time but came back to draw level at 11-all at half-time.

Bondi Phoenix edged the Dolphins by two points in the third quarter and sealed the game by winning the last quarter 5-1.

Jade Fisher and Greta Bartfeld were outstanding in defence, working tirelessly in the circle to put pressure on the opposition attack.At the other end, Lola Wine and Ariella Weinberger worked hard in the shooting circle while centre Emily Greenfield remained calm under pressure.

Despite the result, the Dolphins can be incredibly proud of their effort across the whole season, throughout the finals series and in the grand final itself.
