Maimon at MDA

ISRAELI ambassador Amir Maimon was the special guest at an Australian Friends of Magen David Adom (MDA) cocktail function last Sunday where he spoke candidly about his posting, the State of Israel and the Middle East.

Addressing the recent spate of terror attacks in his homeland, Maimon noted the 11 people who were murdered – among them a Druze, an Israeli Arab, men and women – “for me represents the Israeli society mosaic”.

“And you will not be surprised to hear that the first to come to the three places where the attacks took place were Magen David Adom,” he continued.

“The ambulances of Magen David Adom were the first ones to extend medical assistance. In many cases this is the support that saved lives.”

Maimon also addressed the Sde Boker summit with the foreign ministers of the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and Morocco, calling it a “very historic moment”.

“It was about how can we turn the Middle East into a place where people will be living in prosperity,” he said.

“It was all about cooperation. Because we really, truly can share our knowledge and our expertise, our technology, [and] we can also learn from others.”

He also discussed Israeli efforts to help the people of Ukraine.

Thanking Maimon, MDA vice-president Nicholas Aronson paid tribute to the many supporters in the room, noting that more than 30 medicycles had been donated from NSW alone.

Supporters were also shown a video about MDA’s new state-of-the-art blood centre in Israel.
