Israeli ambassador Amir Maimon presented his credentials to Governor-General David Hurley last week, marking the official start of his posting in Australia.

Prior to Wednesday’s ceremony he told The Canberra Times that despite the recent Sydney Festival boycott controversy, “I can promise you … that we will continue to bring Israeli art and culture to Australia despite sidewinds and marginal voices.”

Hitting the ground running, he also posted a video on social media in which he said, “Australia and Israel share a close relationship with significant people-to-people links and broad commercial engagement.

“Together we can make the world a better place.”

Earlier this week, Maimon hosted a breakfast meeting in Canberra with representatives from both sides of politics, including Liberal MPs Tim Wilson, Julian Leeser and Senators Eric Abetz, David Van and James Paterson, as well as Labor MP Mark Dreyfus and Senator Kimberley Kitching.

The group discussed the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
