Marking Women’s Day

Australian and Israeli politicians come together to mark International Women's Day.

ISRAELI minister Merav Michaeli (right) headlined an International Women’s Day panel facilitated by the Israeli Embassy last week.

Michaeli, the Israeli Transport Minister and head of Israel’s new Gender Equality Cabinet, took part in the knowledge-sharing panel alongside Australia’s Minister for Women’s Safety, Senator Anne Ruston (left), among others.

The Women’s Day event brought together prominent and passionate figures from governments and NGOs who are all working to tackle violence against women.

It was a productive discussion, with all participants eager to explore the potential for future collaboration.

Meanwhile, OzHarvest founder Ronni Kahn was due to deliver the Women in Media National Press Club address to mark International Women’s Day in Canberra.

The inspirational Kahn, who grew up in apartheid South Africa and lived on a kibbutz in Israel, was to discuss her journey as a social entrepreneur and activist turned food waste guru in her address, entitled “On Purpose: Believe, Discover, Give”.

Since its inception in 2004, OzHarvest has rescued 70,000 tonnes of food from ending up in landfill and has delivered more than 200 million meals.

Kahn is an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) and an Australian Local Hero of the Year.
