From racing down powdery snow in January as Australia’s sole athlete at the 2023 Makkabi Deutschland Winter Games, Ethan Andrews Zucker (pictured) faced poor snow cover and slow training and racing conditions, in the recently completed Australian skiing season.
But the passionate competitor still had a memorable Aussie winter and remains thankful for Maccabi Australia’s support. “I was most pleased with my results at the Blue Cow Cup, coming first in the U16 boys’ giant slalom and the ski cross and second in parallel slalom,” he said.
He also shone at the Australian Children’s Alpine Carnival at Mount Buller, earning bronze in the parallel slalom and coming fourth in slalom.
And he contributed to Scots College coming third in boys’ division 2 alpine and slopestyle events at the NSW/ACT/Qld Interschools at Perisher.
Other impressive results by Jewish skiers included Finn Rogers’ two bronzes at the Victorian Interschools at Mt Buller, in the division 6 boys’ ski cross and giant slalom and Finn Solomon’s 22nd in the latter.
Henry Orner placed 16th in the division 1 boys’ giant slalom and Sarah Orner 19th in division 2 girls’.
