After weeks of planning, preparation and labour Maccabi Football Club Caulfield (MFCC) officially opened its renovated home change rooms, commonly referred to as the Beehive, last weekend with Rabbi Daniel Rabin of Caulfield Synagogue placing a mezuzah at the front entrance.

MFCC President Kevin Milstein thanked Cr Sam Parasol of Glen Eira council, Gary Hershan and David Clarke (absent) from the Caulfield Park Community Bank for helping to underpin the project.

He also thanked David Southwick MP for always being supportive of the club and the community, as well as Michael Kan and Martin Jona for being an integral part of the Maccabi FC team.

Milstein made a special mention of Robi Roth and Andrew Yarrow who were instrumental in bringing the Beehive project to fruition.

After the speech guests were shown around the ‘Hive’.

Rabbi Rabin said, “It was a profound honour to affix the mezuzah at the newly-upgraded club room for Maccabi FC Caulfield. This act is far more than a ceremonial gesture; it represents a bridge between our cherished traditions and the bright future of our community.

“As we continue to grow and evolve, incorporating our rich heritage into every aspect of our lives, including sports, sends a powerful message of unity, respect and continuity.

“The mezuzah, a symbol of our faith and protector of our spaces, now stands at the entrance of our club room, blessing all who enter with peace and reminding us of our collective identity and values.

“May this be a stepping stone towards further achievements and community bonding, both on and off the field.”

Roth, one of the founders of the club in 1978, described MFCC as a family club that fosters Jewish sports.

“We have a membership of 750 and 37 teams. On Sunday afternoon the park is a sea of orange,” he said.
