The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (JBD) has announced the appointment of Michele Goldman as its new CEO.

Her appointment follows an extensive search following the departure of previous CEO Darren Bark in July last year.

With extensive leadership experience in both the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors, Goldman played a key role in the merger of the six state-based Asthma Foundations into a single national body and subsequently served with distinction over the past seven years as CEO of Asthma Australia.

Prior to this, she held executive roles with the School for Social Entrepreneurs, Mission Australia and Nestlé (in Australia and Israel).

She is currently vice president of JewishCare NSW, as well as a non-executive director of Social Impact Hub. She previously served as a non-executive director of The Housing Connection and the Royal Hospital for Women Foundation.

JBD president David Ossip said that the organisation was delighted to have secured Goldman as its new CEO.

“Michele is an individual of high integrity and great capability with a passionate commitment to our community. She has an impressive track record of achievement in the not-for-profit sector,” he said.

“With her strong advocacy and public affairs skills and experience, Michele is ideally positioned to guide the NSWJBD team and to safeguard and advance the interests of the NSW Jewish community. At a time of great challenge for our community, we know that Michele will provide strong and principled leadership.”

Michele thanked the JBD for the trust it has placed in her.

“I am honoured to be able to serve the NSW Jewish community in this important role. I care deeply about the Jewish community and the organisation,” she said.

“Whilst this is undoubtedly a difficult period, it is also a period of great opportunity for the NSWJBD and I am looking forward to starting in the role.”

She will commence in the role in June 2024.
