In a feat of longevity and dedication, a Jewish community TV program in Melbourne has just broadcast its 800th episode.

Presenter and director of The Shtick, Henry Greener has become a fixture at Jewish events since the program began in August 2004, filming material for the show.

Anyone who is anyone has appeared on the 30-minute program, which has been broadcast twice a week on Channel 31 for 77 seasons over 20 years. It’s one of the top five ratings shown on the community access channel. “We have endeavoured to project a positive image of the Jewish people and Israel, highlighting their place in the multicultural fabric and promoting interfaith relations,” Greener said.

Since October 7, he said there has been extra urgency to each episode, which has showcased community rallies, initiatives supporting Israelis in need, and interviews aimed at dispelling misinformation. “We stand at the forefront of the battle against fake news, blood libel, and misinformation pervasive in mainstream media,” Greener said.

He is grateful to his dedicated editor, Amit Rehak, numerous guests who have appeared on the show, and the generous sponsors who have supported its mission over the past two decades.

Greener said as well as reflecting what’s going on in the Jewish community, his work will be useful for posterity. “My reason for capturing our community for over 20 years is also to create a video archive for future generations.”
