TEAMS of Israel doctors and nurses have been helping with the major emergency relief effort in Haiti in response to the devastating earthquake that struck last week.

Within two days of the quake, the Israel Forum for International Aid, IsraAID, deployed its first teams of doctors, nurses and paramedics to join rescue teams sent by ZAKA and the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).

The IDF medical corps set up a field hospital in the Haiti capital, Port-au-Prince, manned by 120 medical personnel.

In one of the most heart-warming stories to come out of the earthquake devastation, Israeli medics helped deliver a local Haitian baby — who was subsequently named Israel by his appreciative mother.
