Missing girl Michelle Levy found

Missing 11-year-old Michelle Levy has been found “safe and well”.

Her mother, Anne Falk, said: “She’s been found! Going to fetch her now. Thank you everyone one and all!”

She said the family has been overwhelmed by the community support since Michelle went missing from her home in Glenayr Avenue, North Bondi about 6.30pm on Saturday, October 25 after a family argument. A full-scale search involving NSW Police, SES, CSG, Hatzolah and 1000 volunteers got under way to find the girl.

“There have been so many offers of help and support. We have been blown away by the huge turnouts for the searches,” she said.

“I would also like to say a big, big thank you to everyone who has helped look for Michelle and for all the support that you have offered to Adam and myself.

“The community effort was staggering. I was amazed by the number of people who have come together to help look for Michelle. It brought tears to my eyes thinking of all time given up by friends and strangers. The police effort was also fabulous, so much bigger than I expected.”

Superintendent Jason Box, Eastern Suburbs Local Area Commander, said the year 5 student at Woollahra Public School was located at a unit in Mulwarree Avenue, Randwick at 10.30am on Monday morning.

A member of the public spotted Michelle at the premises and contacted her mother, who notified police.

The schoolgirl was reportedly staying with an older man at the flat. He was questioned by police and released without charge.

Michelle is currently with her parents and is “safe and well”, police said.

Detectives are also speaking to Michelle and her parents to ascertain the 11-year-old’s movements over the two days she was missing.

Superintendent Box said: “They (the Jewish community) have poured a lot of resources and we would not have been in a position to locate her without their efforts.”

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies President Jeremy Spinak commented: “We are so very grateful that Michelle has been found and returned safely to her family.

“On behalf of the NSW Jewish community, I wish to thank all the incredible Jewish community volunteers who came together so rapidly and in such overwhelming numbers to find Michelle and bring her home. And a special acknowledgement goes to CSG, Hatzolah, Jewish House, Our Big Kitchen and of course the NSW Police and SES, for their outstanding efforts.”

More to come.
