Mixed bag for Hakoah in first round

Action from the futsal round one men's youth game in Sydney on October 30 between Hakoah and Quake.

HAKOAH Futsal Club teams had mixed fortunes, but an overall solid result, on October 30 in the opening round of an eight-week, four-team summer Saturday futsal competition organised by Football NSW, based at Dural indoor sports centre.

Hakoah faced Quake first up – a traditionally strong futsal club – and their seven teams recorded three wins, three losses and a draw.

Club president Daniel Sharp said there was a good vibe, as players revelled in returning to competition futsal, ahead of the National Club Championships.

“It was great to put our training to the test, and see what areas we need to improve in,” Sharp said.

“We split the day’s [results] with Quake, which is overall not a bad result, as we prepare to play Dural next.”

Switched-on defence by both sides, and some rustiness in finishing off the few chances in attack that presented themselves, ensured goals were hard to come by in a 2-2 draw in the open men’s match.

Hakoah enjoyed wins by their women’s team (4-2), youth men’s side (6-2) and 17 girls’ team (2-1), but were outplayed in the 16 boys’ match (2-4), the 15 girls’ (0-7) and the 14 boys’ (1-3).

And in Marrickville last Sunday, Hakoah’s academy boys’ and girls’ teams enjoyed opening round matches in a six-team junior comp.
