Monte shines a spotlight on ageing with new web series

Montefiore's recently launched online series of talks highlights issues affecting older members of the community and their loved ones.

MONTEFIORE has announced the launch of its new online Spotlight Series highlighting issues that affect older members of the community and their loved ones.

Each session will explore an aspect of the ageing experience, including health and wellness, research and innovation, making the right choices in aged care and supporting older family and community members.

The community will have the opportunity to hear from visiting experts and Montefiore’s own professionals in clinical and allied health care, as well as older people and their families sharing their experiences.

Ahead of Dementia Action Week, a reading was held of Dancing with Memories by author Sally Yule and Illustrator Cheryl Orsini on Monday for families and school groups, to help children understand dementia.

Next Thursday, September 23 at 6.30pm, Scientia Professor Henry Brodaty, co-director of the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing at UNSW and Montefiore chair of Healthy Brain Ageing, will join Montefiore Dementia Support team Dr Jacki Wesson and Eliza Baume on Zoom for Understanding Dementia – a Way Forward.

They will cover some of the latest medical, behavioural and lifestyle innovations and share ideas for family, friends and carers on supporting older people with memory loss.

“While we had hoped to be launching Spotlight as an in-person event, the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney has shown us that it’s more important than ever to stay connected any way we can – so we’re thrilled to be launching the program online,” said Montefiore director of marketing, engagement and client relations Ariella Roth.

“Lockdown has also highlighted how vital it is that we all come together to talk about the ageing experience, including how we can support older members of our community and each other.”
