The National Council of Jewish Women of Australia (NCJWA) Victoria congratulates their very own Michelle Kornberg who has won the Kingston Woman of the Year award in the category “Inspiring Innovation” celebrating International Women’s Day.

Kornberg has been the Caring Mums program manager at NCJWA (Vic) for almost 10 years.

Caring Mums is a free and confidential program that provides emotional support to new mothers with a trained volunteer by their side.

Kornberg has worked as a therapist, educator and facilitator and has been a volunteer on the Crisis Support Line, Parent Line, Suicide Help Line and Men’s Line Australia.

In 2011, she developed the Caring Mums program and has since trained over 200 volunteers, and has matched over 600 new mothers with a Caring Mums volunteer.

On receiving the award Kornberg said, “I am thrilled and so very proud to be receiving this award. I am fortunate to have had the most amazing role model for giving to and inspiring others – my late mother Pearl Kaufman, whose strong values continue to guide me. The NCJWA (Vic)’s Caring Mums program gives me the perfect avenue to share these values with others and I thank them for nominating me for this award.”

The award-winning program that was the brainchild of Kornberg has received over 700 referrals for women covering 42 different nationalities since its inception.
