This year marks Shalom College’s 50th anniversary and to mark the occasion the entire community is invited to join in the organisation’s half century celebrations.

Shalom began as an idea to establish and support Jewish students and has grown into an organisation that innovated Jewish education, culture and the arts across the Sydney Jewish community.

“We are incredibly proud to have served our community for five decades, and we are looking forward to welcoming back the individuals who have contributed to making Shalom College the vibrant, inclusive and nurturing place it is today,” said director Michelle Kubie.

To celebrate its significant milestone, Shalom College has announced a special alumni reunion day and is inviting community members and past residents who have called Shalom College their home to join for a day of nostalgia, camaraderie and celebration.

There will be an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, explore the college and share old memories.

Shalom College is a residential college on the UNSW campus that is committed to quality and excellence in all its endeavours. It is a home away from home for 130 students, including six resident advisers.

Valuing academia and an inclusive community since it was established in 1973, Shalom welcomes all residents from multicultural backgrounds, faiths, and affiliations.

Shalom College founded the Gamarada Indigenous Scholarship in 2005 and continues to support residential scholarship program for Indigenous students.

It is run by Shalom, a not-for-profit organisation supported by the JCA, and its mission is to increase the vibrancy and engagement of the Sydney Jewish community by fostering Jewish life and learning in an inclusive way.

The organisation enables individuals to enrich their culture, education and professional endeavours through Jewish activity.

“We engage people of different ages and backgrounds through a variety of targeted programs and special events,” Kubie said.

“Focusing on people living in Sydney, we build connection and community. Shalom is about possibilities and opportunities, challenging and inspiring individuals.”
