Despite the Melbourne Holocaust Museum (MHM) not yet being fully fitted out, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Andrew Giles, as well as Federal Member for Macnamara Josh Burns paid it a visit last week.

“It was a privilege to spend the afternoon at the Melbourne Holocaust Museum to chat about their work educating our next generation, and getting a sneak peek at the exciting renovation works underway,” Giles told The AJN.

He thanked MHM for hosting him as well as for their work “in ensuring that Australia is a place where everyone, no matter their faith or heritage, truly belongs”.

Burns echoed these sentiments in thanking the MHM for an “early preview at what a remarkable place of learning, reflection and hope for the Jewish people the newly renovated museum will be”.

He said that Giles and himself were both “deeply moved” by the tour.

“We learnt how the upgraded museum will lead to an increased capacity of school groups visiting, as well as provide different learning activities focused on different ages and themes,” Burns told The AJN.

“I also appreciated the opportunity to discuss with Pauline Rockman the progress our IHRA parliamentary friendship group is having with universities,” he said.

Burns also told The AJN, “I look forward to inviting my colleagues back to the MHM when it officially opens in a few months’ time.”
