The Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS) held a youth and politics networking evening at law firm Arnold Bloch Leibler (ABL) recently.

The student group hosted a range of young leaders across different multi-faith communities and the political spectrum in Victoria.

AUJS public affairs coordinator Eddy Lichtig coordinated the event to “network leaders with people in student politics”, and “fight racism across all communities”.

“It was about the common cause of fighting racism in the workforce, in student politics, and standing up for common interests to create more friendly and amicable communities,” he said.

The diverse group of attendees at the event included young representatives of Jewish, Christian and South Sudanese communities.

Lichtig said there is a need for these kinds of networking events within student politics and AUJS hopes to run more similar events.

“Student politics is very divisive … rarely do [these events] happen between student unions across Victoria with a focus on harmony,” he said.

“It was really engaging and a worthwhile event.”
