Tony Abbott
Prime Minister

I AM pleased to provide this message on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah.

This is a time of celebration for Jewish people around the world. It is an opportunity to come together with family and friends to reflect and renew faith, and to look forward to the year ahead.

Faith is an important element in modern Australia. For many it provides meaning, purpose and inspiration to their daily lives.

Rosh Hashanah is also an opportunity to acknowledge the significant contribution Jewish Australians make to all areas of our national life.

The industry, ingenuity, entrepreneurialism and community spirit exemplified by people of Jewish heritage has done much to shape our modern nation.

As Australians, we have found unity in our diversity and respect in our differences. Together, we are building a country which is a beacon of hope and optimism for people from right around the world.

I send my best wishes for an enjoyable and peaceful celebration.

L’shana tova!

Bill Shorten
Opposition Leader

IT gives me great pleasure to send The Australian Jewish News my best regards for the New Year and wish your readers well over the Fast.

Rosh Hashanah is a time to pause and take stock of the year that has passed. I trust the Australian Jewish community will reflect on the positive contribution you have made to our great nation over the year that has passed.

In the past year you joined with Australians from all walks of life to voice your opposition to bigotry and intolerance, and affirm your commitment to social cohesion and mutual respect. Your voices were heard in the Parliament, and resonated powerfully at the highest levels of government.

Jewish Australians have a long and proud history of community leadership. The Australian Jewish community has made its mark in so many aspects of public life, from business, the arts and philanthropy through to the legal profession and politics. You have made a significant contribution to Australia, and I thank you for your generosity, dedication and leadership.

On behalf of the Federal Parliamentary Labor Party, thank you once again for your contribution, which has enriched us all.

Shana tova umetuka.

Denis Napthine
Premier of Victoria

IT is with great pleasure that I extend my best wishes to Victoria’s Jewish community and the readers of The Australian Jewish News on the occasion of Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.

The Jewish New Year, which begins in the month of September, is an important date in the Jewish religious calendar. It is a time for members of the community to reflect on the past year and to renew their hopes for the year ahead. Significant occasions such as this also remind us of the importance of community and the strength of Victoria’s diversity.

I have been fortunate this year to have met with Jewish community leaders and organisations. As a result, I have heard first-hand the issues and concerns of the community. My experience of these meetings and visits has further highlighted to me the valued contribution of Victoria’s Jewish community to our great State.

The Victorian Coalition Government recognises the work of the Jewish community in helping to create a cohesive, harmonious and vibrant multicultural community. We firmly believe Victoria’s great diversity of beliefs and cultures has significantly enriched our society. Victoria’s Jewish community organisations, together with other multicultural community organisations, play an important role in helping to maintain our State’s reputation as an accepting and tolerant place where all Victorians can celebrate their heritage.

On behalf of the Victorian Coalition Government, I wish the readers of The Australian Jewish News a happy and prosperous New Year.

Daniel Andrews
Victorian Opposition Leader

I AM very pleased to extend, to the members of Victoria’s Jewish community, my best wishes for a good, healthy and sweet new year.

The celebration of Rosh Hashanah is an ancient tradition but its values and symbols are just as significant today.

It’s an opportunity to reflect on how the Jewish Community has enriched Australian society with its values and achievements over this past year.

May you welcome the arrival of this special occasion with prayer and celebration and may your name be inscribed in the book of life.

On behalf of the Victorian Labor Party, l’shana tova tikatevu.

Mike Baird
Premier of NSW

I AM delighted to send my best wishes to the Jewish community of NSW on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah.

On September 24, 2014, the welcoming of the New Year will provide the Jewish community with an opportunity for prayer and reflection, and for celebrating the positive events and achievements of the past year.

During this sacred time, rituals and practices honour both the rich and ancient traditions of Judaism, and signify hopes and wishes for the future.

The NSW government is committed to protecting and promoting a cohesive society, and it is occasions such as Rosh Hashanah that positively contribute to the fabric of our multicultural and multi-faith society.

On behalf of the NSW government, I wish everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah an enjoyable and peaceful occasion.

John Robertson
NSW Opposition Leader
