Harkin talks antisemitism, two-state solution and more.

Colleen Harkin

Liberal candidate for Macnamara Colleen Harkin told The AJN this week, “Palestinian statehood can only be realised through direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.”

“The Morrison Government remains strongly committed to a two-state solution, where Israel and a future Palestinian state exist side-by-side,” she said.

The former teacher and education consultant said climate change is “very important to me as a mother and our wonderful community”.

She is committed to the Morrison Liberal Government’s Net Zero by 2050 policy “and to achieving a transition to renewables that also recognises the need to keep power bills affordable so that people can continue to heat and cool their homes and live a comfortable life”.

Harkin said she supports the adoption of the IHRA working definition of antisemitism by the Morrison government.

“Combating antisemitism, or any form of extremism, requires a mix of vigilance, engagement, and education,” Harkin said.

“The Liberal Party proudly supports and promotes anti-discrimination laws, provides funding to enhance security at Jewish synagogues, organisations and schools, has provided $28 million to establish Holocaust memorials, museums and a Holocaust memorial week as well as funded classroom resources to educate all Australian students about the Holocaust.”

Pre-poll voting is now open.
