Rabbanit zooms in from Efrat
JOFA Australia hosts Zoom with Rabbanit Shira Marili Mirvis.
THE Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance Australia (JOFA) recently hosted a Zoom event with Rabbanit Shira Marili Mirvis (pictured top row, second right) – the first ever sole female spiritual leader of Kehillat Shirat HaTamar, an Orthodox congregation in Efrat, Israel.
Rabbanit Mirvis, a former fellow with Midreshet Lindenbaum’s Institute for Halachic Leadership, offered advice about how to promote greater inclusion for women in Orthodoxy at the Q&A titled “Shattering the Glass Ceiling.”
Although she had travelled to Australia years ago, JOFA president Nomi Kaltmann, said this was the first time that the community here had the chance to hear from her firsthand.
“Rabbanit Marili Mirvis’s words and wisdom were well received and many found her to be insightful and introspective,” said Kaltmann, adding that she hoped to welcome the rabbanit to Australian shores again soon.
