MUAY Thai fighter Dylan Resnekov has jetted off to Thailand to prepare for his biggest fight of the year.
Resnekov, who won an Australian title earlier this year, will return to Australia to compete in the main event in a televised fight in Penrith, NSW, on October 2 against “Dane Daddy Cool”.
The event will also feature fighters from The Contender Asia reality television series.
It has been a challenging preparation for the incumbent Maccabi NSW Sportsman of the Year.
He contracted swine flu on an earlier training trip to Thailand, and has juggled training with managing his newly refurbished gym in the North Shore, which he runs with his brother Liam.
Now back in Thailand, the 26-year-old faces two gruelling double sessions a day in the oppressive Bangkok heat.
Resnekov’s first bout will be a race against the clock to drop 10 kilograms in a month to meet the nominated fight weight of 61.2 kilograms that he and his opponent set when they negotiated the bout.
“This is going to be the biggest, most challenging fight of the year for me,” Resnekov said.
“He’s a little taller and finished a lot of his opponents off in the early rounds.”
Resnekov was slated to put his Australian title on the line next month, but with that fight falling through, he feels it has simply opened up another door that will allow him to pit himself against the sport’s best fighters.
“This is a big opportunity for me to get more exposure for myself,” he added.
“They’ve been mouthing off that I’m not fighting enough in Australia to prove myself. So it’s a win-win for me.”
