The picturesque landscape of Marysville became a vibrant hub of cultural exploration at the United Jewish Education Board’s (UJEB) recent Machane Tevah Camp. The event brought together kids and leaders from across Melbourne for five days of learning, adventure and camaraderie.

Students from years 3 to 12 participated in a dynamic program blending Jewish values, heritage and outdoor activities. From engaging workshops exploring Jewish history and tradition to thrilling outdoor excursions, every moment was designed to inspire, educate and foster personal growth. The kids were immersed in a rich tapestry of experiences, including a Shabbat dinner, arts and crafts workshops, team-building challenges and outdoor adventures such as canoeing and bonfire nights under the stars.

As the sun set on another memorable experience the campers departed Marysville with cherished memories and a strengthened sense of identity and belonging.

Joseph Folwell, the camp coordinator, went on his first camp in year 3. “This year was not only our biggest camp ever with over 100 students, but it was a unique platform for students from non-Jewish day schools to connect with their Jewish identity, build lifelong friendships and cultivate a deeper appreciation for their heritage.”

Toby, a year 5 camper loved the experience. “It was easily the best camp I’ve ever been to. When I got home I felt homesick which didn’t make sense. I realised I felt like I was at home at UJEB camp. I’ll definitely come to the next one, hopefully, you guys could do two a year.”

Year 8 camper Tal’s mother Sharon said, “My daughter had an amazing time and it’s to the credit of those who were involved in organising the camp. I am thrilled that Tal has come back so Jewish-positive and enthusiastic.”

UJEB is a provider of Jewish education and cultural experiences aiming to inspire Jewish identity and strengthen community connections. It offers programs for children, youth, families and educators.
