BILL SHORTEN
Leader of the Opposition

On behalf of Federal Labor we extend our warmest wishes to Jewish communities in Australia and around the world on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah.
Rosh Hashanah is a celebration of the Jewish New Year and marks the beginning of the High Holidays, a period of celebration which lasts ten days.
It is a time of reflection, forgiveness and renewed hope for a prosperous year ahead with families, friends and communities.
We are grateful for the contributions the Australian Jewish community have made towards enhancing our image of a modern multicultural society.
As the shofar is blown in acknowledgment of this joyous day and families share the sweet fruits of the season, may this occasion unite us all in peace and harmony as Australians.
L’Shanah Tovah

Gladys Berejiklian
Premier, NSW
IT is with great pleasure that I wish a Shana Tovah to the Jewish community.
As we welcome the Jewish New Year, we listen to the blowing of the shofar which serves as a reminder to celebrate our blessings and repent our sins.
Rosh Hashanah is a time of reflection on the year that has passed and an opportunity to look towards the year ahead.
Following the tradition of dipping apple in honey, we pray together for a Shana Tovah Umetuka, a sweet New Year for us and our loved ones.
On behalf of the Government and people of NSW, I send my best wishes to the Jewish community on welcoming this New Year.

Daniel Andrews
Premier, Victoria
I SEND my best wishes to every Victorian of Jewish heritage as you celebrate Rosh Hashanah.
This is a time when Jewish communities around the world gather to reflect on the past year while looking forward to the next.
Our government will always support Jewish Victorians to share and celebrate their faith and culture.
And here in our proudly multicultural state, we will always greatly value and honour the many contributions they make every day.
Because of those contributions, we are more open, more tolerant and more forward-looking.
As we are reminded by the shofar blasts, and as we join family and friends, we await a year of happiness, purpose, and compassion.
It has been my honour to serve our state as Premier. And if given that great gift again, I look forward to continuing to work in close partnership with our Jewish communities.
I wish you all a sweet and memorable Rosh Hashanah.
Shanah Tovah.

Luke Foley
Opposition Leader, NSW
AS Leader of the Opposition and on behalf of the NSW Labor Party, I extend my warmest wishes for a happy, healthy and sweet new year ahead to all members of the NSW Jewish community: May the year ahead be filled with peace, happiness and good health.
Rosh Hashanah is celebrated in synagogues and homes across our wonderful state.
NSW Jewish families come together to recite the kiddush, dip apples in honey, break the challah, enjoy a meal together with loved ones and wish each other Shana Tova.
As well as a celebration, Rosh Hashanah is a time for NSW’s 40,000 strong Jewish community to pray, reflect on the past year, look outwards and recommit to building a better future for our society.
It is also time to honour and retain the memory and lessons of the Shoah as each year, we see a dwindling number of Holocaust survivors who bore witness.
We all pray for a lasting peace settlement in the Middle East.
As NSW Opposition Leader, it is with great honour and pleasure that I say to you all: “L’Shana Tova u’Metuka.”

Matthew Guy

Opposition Leader, Victoria
IT gives great pleasure to extend my best wishes to the Australian Jewish News and Victoria’s Jewish community as it comes together to celebrate the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashanah is a significant holiday for the Jewish communities all around the world and is a cherished time to spend with family and loved ones in the spirit of reflection and community celebration.
It is a reminder to us all of the freedom we have to celebrate our religious and cultural heritage. In Victoria, we are fortunate to live in a diverse society where significant events such as Rosh Hashanah can be observed freely.
Our position as the leading state for multicultural affairs has been supported by our energetic multicultural sector, including Victoria’s Jewish community, who continue to champion many benefits of our diversity, and promote harmony and cohesion across Victorian communities.
Victoria’s Jewish community has a strong and proud history in sharing its culture and traditions with the broader community making a vital and ongoing contribution to our diverse state.
On behalf of the Liberal Nationals, I thank Victoria’s Jewish community for its contribution to the prosperity and vibrancy of our state and wish you all a peaceful and joyous Rosh Hashanah.
Shanah Tovah.
