Ryvchin’s book to tackle antisemitism in schools
"My reasons for writing this book were, much like the subject matter, complex," Ryvchin told the audience.
Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) co-CEO Alex Ryvchin launched his book The 7 Deadly Myths in front of over 150 guests at Bondi Pavilion on Tuesday evening.
“My reasons for writing this book were, much like the subject matter, complex,” Ryvchin told the audience.
“Antisemitism has seen our people dispossessed, discarded, massacred in every generation. But it has also given us the pride and the duty that comes from enduring, from being survivors, from belonging to that tiny sliver of our people that has made it to this day with our Jewishness intact. Telling our story, making sense of it, as this book seeks to do, is an expression of that pride and duty.”
Three federal MPs, Allegra Spender, Josh Burns and Julian Leeser, provided video speeches, while ECAJ president Jillian Segal announced plans to initiate an education campaign using Ryvchin’s book as a reference that will be rolled out to all non-Jewish schools in an effort to “systematically tackle antisemitism or Jew hatred at its source, when children are still at school and before their attitudes are fixed”.
