Sandler honoured for years of JCA leadership

Former JCA president Ian Sandler has been appointed as a Life Governor, recognising his many years of leadership and longstanding contribution to the NSW and ACT Jewish community.

Sandler stepped down as JCA president in August, having led the organisation through a period of significant change and challenge, including the most substantial governance transformation in JCA’s history.

He also made a significant contribution as a member of JCA’s Investment Committee for many years, as a board member of Wolper Jewish Hospital and as president of Maccabi Golf Australia prior to his presidency at JCA.

As a Life Governor, Sandler joins a distinguished group of communal leaders who provide JCA with trusted strategic counsel and insight on key issues affecting the community.

The Life Governors meet quarterly with JCA leadership to discuss key communal issues, emerging challenges and opportunities, and the future needs of the NSW and ACT Jewish community.

JCA CEO Alain Hasson said Sandler’s appointment recognised both his contribution as president and the value of continuing to draw on his experience.

“Ian has given an enormous amount to JCA and to our community over many years. His six years as president were marked by thoughtful leadership, strong governance and a deep commitment to the future of our community,” he said.

“We are very pleased that Ian will continue to contribute to JCA as a Life Governor. The collective experience and wisdom of our Life Governors is an important resource for JCA as we navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

JCA President Myra Salkinder said the Life Governors represented an important connection between the community’s past experience and its future.

“The strength of this group lies in the depth and breadth of experience around the table. They understand our community, its institutions and the issues that matter, and provide a trusted forum for considered and strategic advice.

“Ian has been an important part of JCA’s leadership for many years, and we look forward to continuing to benefit from his knowledge and perspective in this next chapter.”
