YAAKOV Hoffman has been awarded the 2010 Rabbi Boruch Abaranok Scholarship for Torah study in Israel.

The graduate of Melbourne’s Leibler Yavneh College will spend 2010 at Har Etzion Yeshivah in Gush Etzion.

A student of the Chafetz Chaim, Rabbi Abaranok was head of the Mizrachi organisation for many years.

Following his death in 2001, his students chose to honour his memory by instituting an annual award where a VCE graduate is sent to Israel to study for a year and subsequently returns to become communally involved in hadrachah (teaching), while also pursuing further studies and a career.
