DIEGO Schwartzman’s Australian Open prospects got a major boost as he turned on the after-burners to sideline Spanish opponent Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in his second straight sets victory of the tournament on Wednesday.

The 14th-seeded Argentinian triumphed over blustery conditions on the court to notch up a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory against Fokina.

“The match was tough with windy conditions,” Schwartzman told The AJN afterwards, “but considering the conditions, my game was very good, very solid.

“For the next matches I need to continue like today and the matches before it, and that’s what I’m thinking about,” a focused Schwartzman reflected.

On Tuesday, Schwartzman prevailed over South Africa’s Lloyd Harris in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.
