"It was a most uplifting and emotional Shabbat. Hundreds of people attended to light Shabbat candles and don tefillin before the service," Rabbi Wolff said.

Former prime minister Scott Morrison attended Central Synagogue in Bondi last Friday for the Shabbat service, along with former Liberal MP Dave Sharma, in a show of solidarity with the Jewish community.

“It was a solemn time of prayer and reflection as they sang, read from the Torah and encouraged each other in their faith. Despite the incredible suffering of the Jewish people and especially now, they remain together, strong, resilient and ever hopeful,” Morrison said.

“In the midst of these horrific terrorist attacks by Hamas on the people of Israel, they will live on. They will rightly defend themselves against the evil that was inflicted upon them and they will stand together in community all around the world, including here in Australia. We will stand with them also and for those of faith we will pray for the strength and wisdom of their leaders, for the comforting of those who have suffered such terrible loss, for the resilience of their community and for an enduring peace to be established.

“Am Yisrael Chai.”

Rabbi Levi Wolff thanked Morrison, who was joined by his wife, as well as a number of other politicians who attended the Shabbat service.

“It was a most uplifting and emotional Shabbat. Hundreds of people attended to light Shabbat candles and don tefillin before the service,” Rabbi Wolff said.

“Thank you, former prime minister Scott Morrison, for your heartfelt words of support. Jenny’s presence was very meaningful. My deep appreciation to former Australian ambassador to Israel Dave Sharma, and member for Vaucluse, Kelly Sloane and Member for Wentworth, Allegra Spender, for joining us in the synagogue.
The support each of you provided and your friendship is deeply appreciated by the Jewish community.”
