Sending a little Lockdown Love

So many people are struggling at the moment, whether it is living with lockdown restrictions, job uncertainties, missing loved ones overseas, or even missing loved ones who are around the corner.

In particular, the younger generation is missing out on crucial social milestones – formals, graduations, first years at university, and even just general catchups with friends.

It’s something that Sydney besties Amber Linz and Chloe Shaw, both Moriah College graduates, were discussing over FaceTime just a couple of weeks ago.

Linz and Shaw, both 21, wanted to figure out a way to help their friends who are riddled with boredom, loneliness and COVID cabin fever.

“We wanted to send more than a ‘virtual hug’,” Shaw explained. “An actual gift that said ‘thinking of you’ without breaking the bank.”

And so, LockdownLoveSydney was born. The business was built within a week, aiming to spread kindness, not COVID, and a little bit of lockdown love.

Aiming to make people smile and laugh, the business ranged from notes and cards to gift packs and treats. Some of the cards cheekily say things like “I’m so Gladys we’re friends” and “Iso miss you so much”. Gifts range from fun home-based activities like a DIY beading kit, something delicious like lollies or tea, or something to pamper the recipient, such as bath salts. And they’re all delivered within 24 hours.

“Over the past 18 months we have seen how gestures of kindness and love really do make all the difference,” the girls say on their website.

And that’s exactly what they’re hoping their packages will do.
