Sheezel reflects on brilliant Brownlow tally
AFL star and former AJAX junior Harry Sheezel was a panellist at a Maccabi Vic event at the 'G' last Tuesday.
The morning after Jewish AFL star Harry Sheezel finished equal fifth on 27 points at the 2026 Brownlow Medal count – earning the most votes by a North Melbourne player since 1983 – he attended Maccabi Victoria’s AFL Grand Final Breakfast function at the MCG.
His tally equalled the all-time record for the club, set by champion winger Keith Greig in both 1973 and 1974.
And it surpassed Ross Glendinning’s 24 votes earned in 1983.
Sheezel (pictured speaking) was part of a panel discussion hosted by Tiffany Cherry, featuring AFL CEO Andrew Dillon, Jonathan Brown, Luke Darcy and Gerard Healy, at the September 22 event.
There were footy insights shared, and jokes too, and AFL legend Kevin Sheedy was also present.
When asked about the Brownlow count – won by a big swoop by Magpies star Nick Daicos – Sheezel humbly said it was “nice to get a few more votes than last year”.
He also said it has been “a tough couple of weeks” since Kangaroos coach Alistair Clarkson was let go by the club and he’ll always remember “Clarko” as his first AFL coach.
Sheezel, who turns 22 next month, is contracted to North Melbourne until the end of 2032.
