Shotland earns Bowls NSW State Championship title
Double Bay Bowling Club rep and Maccabi member Barbara Shotland can now proudly call herself a state champion.
Barbara Shotland – a highly-respected and longtime member of Maccabi NSW Lawn Bowls Guild and a dedicated Double Bay Bowling Club (DBBC) stalwart – etched her name into the history books of both, by being crowned the 2026 NSW State Women’s Senior Singles Champion, when representing Double Bay.
Shotland qualified for the State Championships by being the South East Sydney Region champion.
In a commanding performance in the State Championships final on July 5 at West Dubbo Bowling Club, she defeated Colleen Starr from Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club by 25-8.
That remarkable victory was not only a wonderful and deserving personal triumph for Shotland, but also for Maccabi and DBBC, as she became the first woman from either to win this prestigious State title.
DBBC – in a special edition newsletter – described Shotland’s success as “a testament to her years of dedication, skill, sportsmanship, and unwavering commitment to the game” – a sentiment echoed by Maccabi.
“She has been an outstanding ambassador for both – inspiring teammates and fellow bowlers through her passion and determination.
“Everyone throughout the Maccabi community, and at DBBC, is incredibly proud of Barbara, and this outstanding achievement.
“Mazal tov to Barbara on making history, and bringing such honour to yourself, to Maccabi, to the DBBC and the sport of lawn bowls.
“This is a moment that will be remembered and celebrated for many years to come.”
